The Cosmetology program is a two-year program of classroom instruction that includes clinical experience. Students learn procedures and skills to earn their cosmetologist license. The duties of the cosmetologist are comprehensive and can be varied. The cosmetologist performs a wide range of tasks requiring interpersonal and technical skills and demonstrating creativity and artistic talents.

Welding

The Welding program is a two-year comprehensive, hands-on program for junior and senior students to prepare them for full-time and pre-apprenticeship employment as welders in industries including shipbuilding, industrial construction, energy fields, sheet metal, railroad, ornamental, and general fabrication. Areas of program concentration include Shielded Arc Welding (Stick), Gas Metal Arc Welding (Mig), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (Tig) along with HIWT’s Blueprint Reading, Weld Symbols, and Pipe-layout for welders and fitters courses. Students will be tested in all positions via Break Tests, Acid Etch Tests, and Guided Bend Tests. Students will have the opportunity to earn the American Welding Society (AWS) Welding Certifications. All tests will be held to the AWS standards of acceptability.

Therefore, the student will attain foundational skills for entry-level, technical, and professional careers. The Culinary Arts students operate an on-site restaurant with an ever-changing, full-service menu. In this program, students gain knowledge of necessary food preparation skills, nutrition, terminology, knife skills, safety and sanitation in the kitchen, the service of quality food, menu planning, food purchasing, inventory control, and much more. Those students furthering their education are encouraged to attend universities that offer Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry Arts, Hospitality Management, or Nutrition.
